US Chesed teamed up with GIFT last Sunday to collect food for families in need. Stationed outside Waitrose in Temple Fortune, Tesco stores in Hendon, Golders Green and Edgware, B Kosher in Hendon, Kosher Kingdom in Golders Green and Mendy’s in Edgware; friendly volunteers gratefully accepted donations from shoppers.

In addition, 20 United Synagogue communities arranged for food collections in their own premises so that members could contribution foods items that way.

This initiative was set up as summer months are notoriously difficult to collect enough food for those who rely on donations from the community to feed their families. Currently GIFT support almost 2,000 people on a weekly basis, whilst simultaneously educating and encouraging thousands of young people to give every year.

Michelle Barnett, Director of GIFT said, “Sunday was a true success and we would like to thank the volunteers and shoppers for all their support. GIFT is all about educating and empowering the community to volunteer and give; and this project in partnership with United Synagogue achieved this aim.”

Michelle Minsky, Head of US Chesed commented, ”We are delighted to be joining with GIFT again this year as one of our Project Chesed initiatives, encouraging our members to provide tangible support to the wider community. The food collected will go primarily to families supported by GIFT but will also be used to assist local homelessness hostels.”
